Worthington Hooker Chess team wins first place in the 2013 Knights Joust Scholastic Chess Tournament!
This tournament has four quads based on grades(16 people in all) and was a round-robin style tournament with 3 rounds. The tournament was organized by Rod Groff.
Our school was invited to this tournament and 5 people from our school came.
The first quad was for second graders. ( No one from the Hooker chess team was in 2nd grade)
The second quad was for 3-4th graders. We had Anjali Ramesh for first place with a score of 3/3! Second place was Tamid Islam with a score of 2/3.
The third quad was also for 3-4th graders. We had Guy Ofek with 1st place with a score of 3/3!
The fourth quad was for 5-6 graders. We had George Wang with a score of 3/3!
Second place was Jake Wang with 2/3.
We had a disadvantage for our score because some of our own players had to play other of our own players. Tamid had to play Anjali, and Jake had to play George, which lamentably Tamid and Jake lost, resulting in second place in the quad.
Worthington Hooker placed first in the team section too. The top three scores of the school were counted as the team score. ( Anjali, Guy, and George with a perfect score made up the team score).
Overall, 3/5 of our players placed 1st place and the rest placed second. Only first place in each quad gets a trophy and the first team. Worthington Hooker got 3/4 quad trophies and the 1/1 team trophy.(Hooker did not get 1 of the quad trophies because no players from hooker were in the quad).
Good job everybody!
